THE UNBORN-2009
The Unborn uses special effects and editing, sound and camera shots in the trailer to create the scary atmosphere. It is set in a isolated house with some trees covering it, immediately this tells the audience this is a horror film especially with the dark lighting and the time of day is set in (night). There are some props in the trailer, one being a baby monitor at the start, which makes a whispering sound as if a possessed child is on the other end. This connotes the supernatural and makes the audience think this could relate to religious/devil narratives. Children and religion are a main theme and often show up in horror movies as realistically they are portrayed as innocent and pure which juxtaposes the idea of horror films to be bad and evil. Therefore, using children and making references to religion in an evil atmosphere, make the audience uneasy and worried.

THE DESCENT-2005
The descent is a adventure horror film, its shows classic conventions in the trailer such as the music and flashing images. I like the way the trailer tells you the main story line however leaves you wanting to find out is they escape.(cliffhanger) The trailer is also edited so you only flashes of the creature so you only know what part of it looks like. This leaves your imagination to create the rest of it, which can be scarier than knowing what it looks like.

THE APPARITION-2012
The trailer for this horror film i think gives too much away as all the characters and the main key suspense moments are all shown which almost makes the audience not want to watch it because they already know too much about the film. the music throughout this trailer is constantly changing tempo, creating suspense and keeping the viewer hooked on watching it. the narrator through out this trailer is a male voice (deep and dramatic) which helps the audience recognize this as a horror genre film. Ghost spirits appear in the trailer which show the horror sub-genre is supernatural.

SAW II-2005
Saw II, is a sequel from the original horror movie Saw, for the people who had already seen the first film assume this will be a gory film as they know what to expect from the first one. The use of props in this trailer show that it is a horror movie with a sub genre of gore, by showing big weapons make the audience aware that a lot of blood and guts are likely to be shown in this film.

SCARY MOVIE 4-2006
In this trailer it is made clear at the start that comedy is the horror sub-genre, this is obvious by the upbeat choice of music. The characters are made aware of in this trailer but it doesn't give to much infomation away about the storyline. It is obvious that the movie is about mocking other serious horror films such as 'The Grudge' and 'War Of The Worlds'. The writing at the end of the film is big, bold and bright to portray the comedy and make the audience remember the name of the film.

THE GRUDGE-2004
The grudge is a classic horror. the Trailer shows us that the film is a sub-genre of horror called super-natural. The props and editing used to create the "Grudge" creates a horrific image that remains in your head, this means that even once the film is over most viewers will still be scared. The trailer has scary music, however unlike a typical convention of just playing scary music the grudge has its own creepy sound which they play. This sound is iconic and is very creepy making the trailer scary, this makes the viewer remember the trailer and want to go see the film.

THE STRANGERS-2008
The strangers trailer using camera shots, sound to create an uneasy atmosphere. At the start of the trailer it shows a long shot of a house which appears to be in a forest like area. Using a long shot, makes the audience feel as if someone is watching the house, making them feel on edge. The middle of the trailer we see what we believe is the villain for the first time, a man wearing a mask. This is a long angle shot which shows the villain and the victim together which makes the victim very vulnerable, making us believe this is a slasher horror sub-genre film. Common in slasher films such as ‘Friday 13th’ & ‘Scream’ masks are used as they create an even more scary unknowing atmosphere as the audience are unaware of their killer, and it’s a common phobia to have a fear of masks. this links in with themes of clowns, psychopaths and obsession.

CABIN IN THE WOODS-2012
From the trailer, Cabin in the wood appears to be a a teen horror sub-genre as the use of music & actors gives the impression. This trailer switches through scenes of teens having fun and partying, to scenes of screaming and fear. This is a common theme in teen horror sub genre, as the target audience can relate to the characters.

ORPHAN-2009
The trailer for Orphan is very well made, the editing used build suspense and is never released, this makes the viewer want to watch the film to find out more. Edits are also used to create flashing images, this make the trailer scary because we don't know what is going to happen next. A creepy voice is used for the girl and is the last thing you hear in the trailer making us remember it vividly.

SINISTER-2012
Sinister is a mystery horror, the trailer shows us the story line however it uses no words. Even though the trailer has no speech it is very powerful and we can still understand what is going on. The trailer uses non-diagetic sound to create the tension and atmosphere. I particularly liked the way the trailer had no speech it gives the viewer a chance to imagine more about the film, this is a clever effect because it will make the viewer want to go and see the film to find out what really happens in the film.
